                                                                      ADVERBS                                         An adverb is a word that modifies (describes) a verb (he sings loudly), an adjective (very tall), another adverb (ended too quickly), or even a whole sentence (Fortunately, I had brought an umbrella). Adverbs often end in -ly, but some (such as fast) look exactly the same as their adjective counter.  Adverbs are words that describe verbs. In these two examples, the adverbs tell us how the verb is performed:                                             EXAMPLE :  He walked quickly. (In this example, "walked" is the verb, and the adverb "quickly" describes how the verb was done.)                                                                 She talks loudly.   SIR PHILIP SIDNEY                             Sir Philip Sidney was Born at  Penshurst Place ,  Kent , of an aristocratic family, he was educated at  Shrewsbury School  and  Christ Church, Oxford . He was the eldest son of  Sir Henry Sidney  and  Lady Mary Dudley . His mother was the eldest daughter of  John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland , and the sister of  Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester . His younger brother,  Robert Sidney  was a statesman and patron of the arts, and was created  Earl of Leicester  in 1618. His younger sister,  Mary , married  Henry Herbert, 2nd Earl of Pembroke  and was a writer, translator and literary patron. Sidney dedicated his longest work, the  Arcadia , to her. After her brother's death, Mary reworked the  Arcadia , which became known as  The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia .
